 Pat Quillen's "Q-T" |
| The beauty of this fly is that what you want to duplicate is simply done with color. It can be tied from three to eight inches in length and has the profile of a large baitfish. With it's thin profile and bullet-shaped head, it is surprisingly easy to cast and has about the same sink-rate as an intermediate line.
Recipe:
- Hook: Straight, standard length #2/0 to #4/0
- Tail: 4 to 5 saddle hackles, tied in above point of hook
- Top Wing: Pinch (approx. 3/16" dia.) of bucktail with 15-20 strands of a darker color blended on top
- Under Wing: Pinch (approx. 3/16" dia.) of white bucktail
- Sides: Between bucktail, approx. 15-20 strands of Crystal Flash
- Eyes: Molded (3D) 1/4" to 1/2" dia.
- Head and Collar: Spin "McFly Foam", trim to shape - thin profile/bullet shape. Extend collar into bucktail by combing with the "hook" part of a velcro strip. Add desired colors with marking pens, then finish head with a light coat of thinned "Flexible Clear Sealant" by DAP (thin with Xylene).
